Why I Believe We Have a Sin Problem

Adam and Eve may have been the first people to sin as we read in Genesis chapter 3....
"Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?
The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it."
... but it isn't because of them that you or I struggle with sin.

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23 - Jesus is the only One who perfectly lived - the rest of us sin.

"So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin." James 4:17 - We have chosen to not do things at times (or vice-versa)  that we knew - had the ability to do - we should do. This tells us that would be sin. That was a choice that we made personally.

"No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." 1 Corinthians 10:13 - Temptation is hard and when we choose to give into it that is sin. This verse is so wonderful in the promise that it gives us however.

"For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it." James 2:10

We know that sin is lawlessness, it is missing the mark, it is not leading perfect, holy lives. It is something that we all have to deal with. We struggle with it because of our pride and selfishness.

I am so thank-ful that our struggle with sin isn't the end of the story. It is something that we need to recognize but Jesus came to take care of our sin problem. Praise the Lord. I look forward to sharing verses on that with you soon.
